On Tuesday May 19, the Grand Bend Community Foundation announced more than $100,000 in new funding available to support charities and other qualified donees working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic in Bluewater, South Huron, and Lambton Shores.
The funding comes from two sources: local fundraising, and the Emergency Community Support Fund, a program funded by the Government of Canada.
“Through the incredible generosity of our communities, the Foundation developed a substantial COVID-19 relief fund,” says Chair Deb Gill. “Our goal to help organizations who are supporting vulnerable populations in this unprecedented time.” Gill says the money was raised in part through the successful Stay-at-Home Gala held on May 2 in partnership with the Rotary Club of Grand Bend.
The $350 million Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF), which was formally announced today, also aims to help charities and non-profit organizations adapt and increase frontline services for vulnerable populations during COVID-19. The Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada, and United Way Centraide Canada are collaborating with the Government of Canada to flow ECSF support to those who need it most right now. Grand Bend Community Foundation is proud to be involved in granting these funds in our communities.
“We’re grateful for the leadership of local community foundations like the Grand Bend Community Foundation who are stepping forward to activate this Fund and support their communities as they navigate COVID-19,” says Andrea Dicks, Community Foundations of Canada President. “Thanks to the Government of Canada, our network will support local organizations, helping us set the stage for more inclusive, resilient and sustainable communities.”
“It’s exciting to be part of this pan-Canadian effort,” says Gill. “This is an opportunity to make a real difference to those most affected during the response and recovery phase of this crisis in our communities.”
In both cases, the funding will be distributed as quickly as possible, and charities are encouraged to contact the Foundation for more information.
