Grand Bend Rotary Pledges 45,000 to launch Rotary Community Stage Project.
Grand Bend Beach: July 12th 2015 7 pm
The Rotary Community Stage launched its fund raising drive to a crowded audience of music lovers on the Grand Bend Beach Sunday evening.
At the start of the Summer Sunset Sounds concert featuring Michael VanHevel, Peter Phillips from Grand Bend Rotary Club took a couple of minutes to tell the crowd about the project and the launch of the fund raising.
“This project is a big step forward for Grand Bend, and a big project requires support from a broad base.
The stage is designed to sit facing the water,
It will have a roof, supports for equipment, and will sit in harmony with our beautiful surroundings.
Tonight is the launch our fund raising for this wonderful project.“
Music has been a huge part of the Grand Bend experience since the golden days of Big Band music at the Casino. Many famous artists including Guy Lombardo and Louis Armstrong made the Grand Bend beach the place to be. Grand Bend has been without a permanent stage for a long time.
“ It will fill the need for an open-air venue. A place to gather on a summer night to savour the sounds of the talented musicians from near and far. A place to experience the best of our community.”
The stage is a structure designed to sit facing the water, slightly to the north of the beachhouse. It will have a roof, supports for equipment, and will sit in harmony with the surroundings.
This stage is designed for optimum rain and sun cover without blocking the view of Lake Huron. A sign with and Artist rendering was unveiled to show the actual location and information on the project.
The project still needs help from the community and the fund raising includes the ability for businesses , community organizations and individuals to be involved.
“We are making sure our community members are a part of this. You can be a STAR on the stage or A Stage Hand” A limited number of stars are available and can be done via a one time donation or a pledge over 3 years. Stage hand recognition is via a one time donation. We expect all the available Stars will be spoken for by the end of August.”
The project is expected to be completed in 2016.
