Special scholarship established with the
South Huron Community Fund
In memory of late husband, Joyce Lavender of Hensall donates $10,000 towards technical skills scholarship fund
Exeter, Ontario, September 14, 2017.
In loving memory of her late husband Jack, Joyce Lavender has donated $10,000 to establish
a scholarship fund to benefit students living in the Hensall area – the Lavender Fund.
“My husband, Jack was a mechanic who for years operated Jack’s Small Engine Repair in
Hensall. Before passing away in 2010, he mentioned that he would like to leave a legacy for
students in Hensall who are interested in this field,” said Joyce. “With the help of my
Financial Advisor, Suzanne Mathers of Raymond James in Exeter, we found that the South
Huron Community Fund was a perfect solution.”
Annually, the Lavender Fund award will go to a student graduating from South Huron District High
School with the highest mark in automotive or mechanical technology and who lives in the
Hensall area. If there are no students in that field that year it will go to a student in another
technical field.
“This is a really inspiring gift to future generations,” said Melanie Miller, Chair of the South
Huron Community Fund. “Our organization is proud to work with the Lavender Family and
Raymond James to create this wonderful legacy.”
The South Huron Community Fund is dedicated to supporting the long-term needs of our
region. The fund was established in 2015 by a group of volunteers with the mandate of
making South Huron a stronger, more caring and resilient community in which to live. Funds raised
create a permanent endowment that generates annual grants that are disbursed to local
charitable organizations by a committee of volunteers. Across Canada, there are 191 community foundations granting over $200
million annually to community projects.
The South Huron Community Fund operates as part of the Grand Bend Community Foundation, a registered charity. To learn more about our work, visit grandbendcommunityfoundation.ca or like the South Huron Community Fund on Facebook.
