South Huron Community Fund receives its first ‘family’ donation
Tom and Beverly Prout of Exeter gift $10,000 to their community
Exeter, Ontario, December 21st, 2016.
In the spirit of giving, a local family with deep roots in this community has made a generous gift to the future of South Huron. Thomas and Beverly Prout have established a family fund within the South Huron Community Fund.
“We believe in the positive impact that this fund can have on community building so we are pleased to support it,” said Tom and Beverly Prout. “It’s our hope that by paying it forward South Huron will continue to be a great place to live for generations to come. We encourage other families to help build a legacy for South Huron.”
The South Huron Community Fund is dedicated to supporting the long-term needs of our region. The fund was established in 2015 by a group of volunteers with the mandate of making South Huron a stronger, caring and resilient community in which to live. Funds raised create a permanent endowment that generates annual grants that are disbursed to local charitable organizations by a committee of volunteers. Other community funds started with nothing and today, across Canada, there are 191 community foundations granting over $200 million annually to community projects.
“Donations to the South Huron Community Fund return to South Huron as annual grants to support our local health, education, environment, recreation and arts,” said Melanie Miller, Chair of the South Huron Community Fund. “This is a wonderful gift that will keep giving for years to come.”
Due to their experience, commitment to projects in South Huron and for administration efficiencies, the South Huron Community Fund operates as part of the Grand Bend Community Foundation, which is a registered charity that can issue tax deductible receipts to donors. The South Huron Community Fund implements the Community Foundations of Canada model, which is to build and manage funds, grant investment income to local non-profit projects and provide charitable leadership close to home.
