Turtley Awesome Scavenger Hunt- A Canada 150 Event

Family-friendly charity event to profile the leadership of local

environmental stewardship organizations in a fun and engaging way

Exeter, Ontario, May 18, 2017.

On May 28th, the South Huron Community Fund is hosting a special family event called the Turtley Awesome Scavenger Hunt. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., participants can meet real live turtles and snakes native to Ontario courtesy of the Huron Stewardship Council, participate in a fun scavenger hunt activity supported by the Huron County Library – Exeter Branch, and enjoy a charity barbeque courtesy of Libro Credit Union.

“With this event we’re celebrating two very important environmental stewardship organizations at work in our community: The Huron Stewardship Council and the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority,” said Melanie Miller, Chair of the South Huron Community Fund. “Everyone is invited to come out and have some fun!”

The Huron Stewardship Council is a local not-for-profit volunteer organization committed to creating a healthy environment that’s maintained and appreciated by our communities. The Council works alongside farmers, landowners and partners to promote the adoption of best management practices, species at risk recovery, youth education and habitat restoration projects. They are driven by respect for our environment and a desire to conserve all that makes Huron County a remarkable place.

As part of its extensive natural areas network, the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) manages the MacNaughton-Morrison and Morrison Dam Conservation Area sections of the South Huron Trail. The South Huron Trail begins in Exeter at MacNaughton Park and links the town, via the MacNaughton-Morrison Trail, with the trail that begins east of Morrison Dam (at Morrison Reservoir / Morrison Lake). ABCA protects water, soil, and living things as guided by the community through its Conservation Strategy.

“These organizations work in partnership with the community to help look after the health of our local environment and provide valuable stewardship services to all residents,” added Miller. “This support for natural health, human health and recreation is part of the reason why South Huron is such a great place to live.”
