Ukraine Resettlement Fund- A letter from Chair Deb Gill

Dear Supporters,

Our hearts are breaking as we watch the horrific scenes from Ukraine. At a time when many of us searching for meaningful ways to help, the Sunset Community Foundation has established the Ukraine Resettlement Fund.

The Fund will support churches, charities and other organizations preparing to help Ukraine refugees make homes in this region. The Foundation will match donations to the Fund up to $10,000. All donations will receive an official tax receipt.

The Foundation is working with the Huron County Immigration Partnership to identify potential grantee organizations. Once the Fund is in place, organizations will be asked to complete a simple grant application form. The Foundation’s Grants Committee will then review applications and make grants.

When Covid hit, the Foundation established a matching fund and granted more than $150,000 in six months. We know we can do this, and do it well.

While we can all support international organizations working on the ground in Eastern Europe, this Fund provides an opportunity to provide help in our own communities. Ukrainian newcomers will have many needs, from food, clothing and housing to translation and legal services. There are organizations across the region ready and willing to help, but they will need additional financial resources.

Please consider how you can help.

Yours in hope,

Deb Gill, Chair
